BUILD YOUR HOME PRACTICE with Michele Sapanaro

Yoga was traditionally taught one on one, allowing the teacher to guide the student at his or her own pace. Practicing yoga at home can provide us with a safe haven and an opportunity to foster creativity, discernment and a connection to our true self.

In this workshop we’ll discuss the obstacles that prevent us from unrolling our mats at home. You will learn what is included in a home practice to make it complete, what we gain from practicing on our own, how to create an environment to foster your practice and the elements of postural sequencing that will make your practice comprehensive. You will leave this workshop feeling inspired to make yoga a part of your everyday life!

KIDS’ YOGA with ESTHER

Yoga Synthesis offers Yoga for Kids for ages 4-6 years old, and ages 7-10 years old. Classes begin March 16 (7-10 years old) and March 18 (4-6 years old), and will be held in 6-week sessions, for $72 per session.

A MINIMUM OF 5 STUDENTS IS REQUIRED FOR EACH PROGRAM TO PROCEED. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Our Kid’s Yoga program, for 4-6 year olds, is designed to bring the benefits of yoga to this specific age group in a playful and creative way. Our instructor integrates yoga poses, stretching and breathing techniques in a kid-friendly way, while incorporating music, play and storytelling in each class.

Our Kid’s Yoga program, for 7-10 year olds, is designed to help support mind and body awareness and development. Yoga can benefit this specific age-group in many ways, including developing inner and outer strength, a sense of confidence and self-esteem, a deepened respect for self and others, and an overall sense of well-being.

Our instructor will teach various yoga poses and stretching exercises to help the kids improve strength, flexibility, movement integration and coordination. Breathing and visualization techniques will be utilized to increase relaxation and concentration, while learning methods of self-discipline and control.

Scouting groups are welcome.

About the Teacher:

Esther Cassino has worked with children her entire professional career, and is a certified Montessori Teacher with years of experience. Since retiring from the Ridgewood Montessori School as a head teacher, Esther dedicated her career to teaching yoga to children.

Esther completed Naturally Yoga’s Angel Yoga Children’s Yoga Teacher Training. She has been practicing Gentle Hatha Yoga for over 15 years, completed a Restorative Yoga Teachers’ Training with Ellen Pfeffer, and is a Reiki practitioner. Esther’s greatest happiness is sharing the wonders of yoga with beautiful souls, teaching them to be compassionate, loving and caring.

Esther is presently on staff at Yoga Synthesis teaching Kids’ Yoga. She is a passionate and enthusiastic teacher and creates a fun and enjoyable yoga experience for children of all ages.

Join us as we mutually cultivate the experience of flow, weight sharing, partnered inversions and balances to develop strength, flexibility and trust using the basic fundamentals of yoga, gravity and humor.

Practicing with a partner can greatly enhance understanding, enjoyment, sensitivity and body listening skills. We will also explore Partner Yoga Flying, where one partner serves as a base and the other experiences being supported in a variety of positions, which will decompress the spine and give feelings of exhilaration and bliss! The class will end with Thai Yoga Meridian Stretching to balance the body before Savasana.

Come alone or with a partner and please bring a towel.

Solid Level 1 Experience Recommended

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

At Yoga Synthesis, we offer a quiet, supportive and non-competitive atmosphere, a full range of props, and a variety of classes for all levels of experience. Yoga Synthesis teachers have years of yogic training and experience in providing guidance to newcomers and seasoned students alike.

Gentle/Restorative:
A restful, calming class including breathing, gentle flowing movements, passive and supported poses. Appropriate for anyone who requires or prefers a softer, gentler approach to yoga.

Basic (Level 1):
A slow-paced class incorporating breath, movement and relaxation for those who prefer rests between poses. Props and modifications offered for proper alignment and ease in the postures. For those new to yoga, or anyone preferring this practice style.

All Levels Flow:
This class is designed to challenge continuing students as well as support those newer to yoga. New students are inspired and practicing students are given deeper variations.

Flow (Level 1-2):
A faster paced class with dynamic movements focusing on developing strength and flexibility. The basics of inversions and back bends are offered for those ready to take their practice to the next level. Previous yoga experience helpful.

Vinyasa (Level 2 & Level 2-3):
Prepare to sweat! Strong classes featuring Ujjayi breath, Ashtanga Sun Salutations, deeper back bends and arm balances. Practiced in a warm room. Experience required.

Guided Ashtanga:
A traditional style of Hatha Yoga taught by Sri Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. A vigorous sequence of poses always done in the same order, synchronized with breath.

Mysore Ashtanga:
Self-guided Ashtanga practice for experienced practitioners, with assistance and adjustments from the teacher. A posture sheet is provided as needed.

Yoga & Yamuna Body Rolling (3rd Sunday of each month):
Warm up with yoga postures and then roll out your muscles using Yamuna Body Rolling routines. We roll on 5-9” balls to loosen stiff muscles and joints, improving flexibility. Deeply relaxing. Please wear form-fitting clothing.

Kids’ & Teen Yoga:
A fun, exhilarating opportunity for kids to experience a playful approach to yoga. Yoga improves coordination, balance and movement integration for all stages of a child’s development. Teen Yoga bridges the gap between fun and developing a yoga practice.

Yoga Boot Camp:
Kick-start your day! A Vinyasa practice designed to get you moving and build strength. Experience required.

These workshops explore the intricate functioning of muscles, joints and the lines of myofascia that link throughout the body. Russell shares his insights of how the myofascial structure reflects common postural imbalances and compensations.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Russell began his professional career in 1998 working as a Physical Therapist at N.Y.U. Medical Center, specializing in orthopedics, acute care, rehabilitation, and as a certified vestibular balance specialist. His intense interest in bodywork, movement therapy and myofascial anatomy guided him to study with highly regarded Rolf therapist, Thomas W. Myers, author of Anatomy Trains. In June 2001, Russell received his certification in Structural Integration, a powerful form of bodywork designed to ease pain, correct posture, resolve somato-emotional stasis, enhance performance, and improve body image. The ultimate goal is integrating personal growth with a deepening awareness of mind-body-spirit connection. Additionally, Russell holds an Integral Yoga teaching certification, teaches Anatomy & Physiology for various Yoga Teacher’ Training Programs, as well as teaching Myofascial Anatomy & Palpation at Bergen Community College.

Even if you’re not used to a strong practice, alternatives will be given, with a stage-by-stage approach used to move toward the more strenuous/advanced poses. Each session will focus on specific themes, while still having a fully integrated experience.

About the Teacher:
Judy has been practicing yoga for over ten years and has certifications in Yoga for Teens with Christy Brock and Childrens Angel Program with Sheryl Edsall. She began her career as a Pre-K and Elementary Education teacher and gradually brought yoga into the classroom. When she witnessed the profound positive effects it had on the children and the classroom environment she decided to dedicate her life to empowering children and teens with the gift of yoga. She has studied with many gifted teachers over the years and owes a world of gratitude to everyone she has met along this beautiful path. A special thank you goes to her teacher, Raji Thron, whose wisdom, patience and guidance continues to be a true inspiration.

This workshop will demonstrate unique ways to combine breath and movement, and to adapt the practice to your specific needs.

Learn which pranayama techniques are most useful for you individually, and how to incorporate those techniques into your practice.

Fran will also present healing and therapeutic aspects of the ancient practices of sound, chant and mudra as powerful tools to promote an inward experience of stillness and peace.

About the Teacher:
Fran Ubertini (E-RYT 500) is a committed student in the Krishnamacharya lineage, whose distinguishing contribution to modern yoga practice is the consistent use of the breath as the vehicle in postural practice, and the need for yoga practice to be tailored to each individual. Fran is the Director of Yoga for Well-Being in Florida, NY, a certified KHYF (Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation) Teacher Trainer and holds diplomas from the American Viniyoga Institute as a Yoga Therapist. She teaches workshops locally and nationally as well as teacher trainings. She continues her studies with Sonia Nelson in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
